Viettel Group has announced the international Asia Direct Cable (ADC) is now connecting Vietnam, a subsea cable state-owned operator has invested in.
The subsea cable is 9,8000 kilometres, cost US$290 million to construct and has a capacity of 140Tbps. It is claimed the cable has the largest bandwidth capacity in Vietnam - three times higher than the Asia Pacific Gateway cable which has a capacity of 54.8Tpbs, reported VN Express.

Viettel plans to put the cable online in 2023. The cable also connects operators in Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines and Thailand. Other operators have invested in the ADC includes: Singapore Telecommunications, China Telecom, Japan's SoftBank, China Unicom, and TATA Communications.

Vietnam currently has six submarine cable systems and a 120 gigabit channel that runs overland into neighbouring China.
